Finding the n last added web references.
Say you want to find your 4 last added web references or n (some number) last added web references. You can easily accomplish that by typing in the search text field ":lastadded 4" without the quotes. That will display the last 4 web references you have added. So in general type :lastadded n to get the last n items added. Typing ":lastadded " (note a space) will show the last 10 items.
Navigate quickly to a dossier from anywhere.
This is is pretty cool and I use it all the time. To navigate quickly to any dossier using the Firefox plugin, text field search, or search bookmarklet doesn't matter which.
- First create a web reference for that dossier by clicking on your "Add" bookmarklet while viewing the particular dossier.
- Next add an alias for that web reference to the dossier. Like "news" if it's your news dossier.
- Save the web reference.
I add the web reference into a separate dossier specifically for aliased dossiers.
That's it. Now you can just type your alias and the dossier will be displayed. Handy if you open a page and have the Firefox plugin. Just typing an alias will navigate you to anywhere in the hierarchy of dossiers.
Archive a news story that will surely go away.
Sometimes I want to keep a news story, archive it, to have it later for my research purposes and I know if I simply web reference it the story eventually will not be available. Like on Yahoo News or The New York Times. To remedy this I select the printer friendly version of the story, click on my "Add" button in my favorites bar and paste the story into the meta-information text box. Then I pick a dossier and save it. Now I have full access to the story via terms search and it will always be available too. The URL will go 404 (no longer available) but I don't care because I have the story and a reference to where I got it originally.
Put a dossier with active sub-dossiers in Reading List.
If you have grouped your active content, dossiers with RSS feeds of some type, in some way like putting all Yahoo! news feeds into a Yahoo main dossier you can put that Yahoo! dossier into the reading list. That way you can quickly see what is new in that dossier and navigate directly to a dossier's content without having to travel through any parent dossiers. It's illustrated in the guided tour. To achieve this just go to edit dossier mode and check off the "Reading List" checkbox and save the changes. Now, anytime new content arrives in any of its sub-dossiers, you will see it in the Reading List. I like it!
