What is wURLdBook?

wURLdBook is a free hybrid web service that facilitates your ability to subscribe to, manage, and store web based information such as news feeds, and web references. wURLdBook provides tools to easily navigate to frequently visited sites by using custom aliases and search your information reservoir. Essentially, wURLdBook is your information hub. Your web memory. RSS news subscriptions combined with the ability for you to archive data of your interest from web sites, wURLdBook provides the means to allow you to efficiently manage web based content and information. You locate the the information via RSS feeds you have subscribed to or from research you have done, then save it for sharing it with friends and collegues. Once you have built up a large information reservoir, you can easily find it again using wURLdBook's searching and navigation features.

wURLdBook has been designed to handle large amounts of information and to make it easy to find your information. And you can find it from any internet connected device.

Where can I get the Firefox plugin?

You can get the search bookmarklet by visiting the help pages or going to the FirefoxPlugin page and find it in the top right corner of the page.

What's my public access URL?

The URL to access your public content that you should share with people is http://www.wurldbook.com/im/home/<Your Member Alais>. You need to create a member alias before anyone can access your public content. To do that go to preferences and put your Member Alias of choice in the account information section. The member alias lets you select an alternate name to show the rest of world your account instead of you login id.

Where can I get the Firefox plugin?

Please visit FirefoxPlugin. Once you have clicked on the browser icon go to the top right hand corner of a Firefox window and click on the current search engine icon. A pop down list should contain wURLdBook's icon in there. Select that and your ready to use wURLdBook integrated into Firefox.

How do I publish a Dossier as RSS?

To publish a dossier's public content as an RSS feed you need to:

  1. Go to the preferences and create a Member Alias
  2. Go to the dossier you want to publish and in edit mode select the Publish check box and save.
  3. Create some content and save it as public
Once you publish some public content you will see a [RSS] appear. That will be the URL to the feed. Also, in your public content area there will be a list of publish dossiers.

How can I easily add a web reference when I am visiting another site?

In order to easily add web references to your information reservoir while you are visiting another site you need to either have already dragged the "Add" bookmarklet from the "Tools/Notifier" window to your favorites bar or you have the "Tools/Notifier" window open and drag the "Add" link to the page.

If you are using a frequently used computer just click on the "Tools/Notifier" link at the top of the page in the menu bar. This will open a little window with several controls over the top. One of them is "Add". Drag this link to your favorites bar. Now whenever you encounter a page you want to add to your information collection just optionally highlight some text in the page and click the link. Another window will open up and you can select a dossier in which to place the web reference and click save.

How does the Reading List relevance work?

When you create a dossier that has active content, that is there is a RSS feed associated with it, you can pick a relevance for it. When new content arrives the dossier will display in the proper relevance group and within that group the order of the dossiers will be the ones with the newest content first.

Can I put a dossier that contains active content sub-dossiers in the Reading List?

Yes! When you configure a dossier that contains active content sub-dossiers in the reading list hovering over the Reading List link will display the dossiers with new active content which you can select directly. Normally, when you hover over a Reading List dossier you will see a list of the first 10 unread items headlines.

How Much Does wURLdBook Cost?

Nothing if you don't like it. If you like it you can contribute to wURLdBook. But, you're not forced to pay anything.

How Do I Sign Up?

Signing up to wURLdBook is free and easy. Only an email address and password are required. Click here to register. Registering with wURLdBook allows you to subscribe to and read your favorite news feeds.

Once you register with wURLdBook, a validation email is sent to you. Reply to that and your account will be validated.

How Can I Import An Existing List of Subscriptions?

Not at the moment.

How Can I Export My Subscriptions?

From the Preferences page, click the Export Subscriptions link at the bottm of the page. Your subscriptions will be exported in OPML format.

What's OPML Format?

OPML format is an XML format. For more information on the OPML format, click here.

What Formats Does wURLdBook Support?

There are currently several file formats for syndicating content, including but not limited to RSS 0.91, 1.0, and 2.0 and Atom. wURLdBook has been tested with and supports all popular formats, including those by Radio Userland, Blogger and Movable Type. It is our goal to always have seamless, invisible support for all popular formats.

How Often Does wURLdBook Check For Updates?

Currently, wURLdBook checks sites once an hour for updates.

Does wURLdBook Support Atom Feeds?

Yes, wURLdBook supports all major syndication formats, including Atom.

I'm Having Problems Logging In

The wURLdBook web site requires that cookies be enabled in your browser. wURLdBook uses cookies, some to store session information and another to store authentication information.

I Forgot my Password

Click on the "Forgot my password" link and enter your accound id. An email will be sent to the address you registered with containing your account information.

What's the difference between the notifier and idle page notifier?

The idle page notifier is a way wURLdBook keeps you informed of changes to your active content (subscriptions) while a browser page is open but not being used. You can opt for no notification, changes to any news in the reading list or changes to only items in the notifer.

The notifier is active when you have clicked the "Tools/Notifer" link at the top of the page. Now, any news feed that you have checked of "In Notifier" will be checked periodically for new content and if there is new content the notifier window will display the dossiers that contain the new information to you.
